Salicylate toxicity from percutaneous absorption can occur, especially with methyl salicylate. Renal dialysis patients are at increased risk for salicylism because salicylates are primarily excreted by the kidneys. Physicians should be aware of the potential risks of salicylate dermal absorption and toxicity.
