Modelo del sistema de distribución de aguas blancas en la ciudad de Mérida Model of Mérida city's water supply system

This article presents a simulation model of Merida city’s water supply system, utilizing Systems Dynamics methodology. System parameters such as rates of water production, tanks input flow and storage level, consumption and losses were estimated by interviews with specialized personnel and by studying the documentation provided by the regional water supply company, Aguas de Merida. Model validation was accomplished by means of experts on the subject. The model allows to study the impact of variations on water production levels and demand over the water supply system measured as total water storage and number and duration of service interruptions. Several scenarios were evaluated that could be use for Aguas de Merida to develop policies that support a more rational use of water and an improvement of the service.
