The author reminisces about her involvement in developing the arguments for the Mabo case in the 1980s, which resulted in granting ancestral ownership of Mer Islands back to the present day Meriam people. She recalls the methods of silences, secrets, reduced talking and increased listening of all supporters to gain relevant information from the Meriam people to ensure their ownership of their land.
