Amplification of scintillations in mixed crystals

1999
A mechanism, explaining amplification of scintillations in mixed aluminates activated by cerium ions - (Y 1-x Lu x )AlO 3 :Ce (0 3+ and Ce 4+ with holes and electrons causing scintillations are considered. Is shown, that the intensity of scintillations increases with decrease of mean free paths of electrons and holes and that it is proportional to the parameter of the compositional disorder x (1-x). Also the mechanism of amplification of scintillations caused by transfer of excitation energy by excitons is considered.
