Prescribing, Recording and Reporting of BNCT

2012
In this chapter, recommendations for prescribing, recording and especially reporting of dose in BNCT are developed and discussed. The main goal of the authors was that these recommendations are coherent with the general rules of prescribing, recording and reporting of dose in conventional radiotherapy following international standards. The fundamental quantity used in all therapeutic applications of ionising radiation is the absorbed dose (D) with its unit gray (Gy). The complex dose distribution in tissue resulting from BNCT, which basically is due to 4 different dose components with different LET, different RBE and different spatial distribution, needs a sophisticated and detailed reporting system in order to avoid any risk of confusion.
