Mercuration of Nile Blue, Acid Red 37 and 1-(2 -benzimidazolylazo ) -2 -naphthol

Mercuration of Nile Blue, Acid Red 37 and 1-(2-benzimidazolylazo)-2-naphthol was studied under different conditions (solvents, temperature) to obtain different products in each case. These compounds were found to be with an effect like that of the dyes. The replacement of (-Hg-), (-HgOAc) or (-HgOH) in their compounds by iodine afforded new iodo-organic compounds. The mechanism of the reaction was studied and the structures of the new compounds were confirmed by different tools, elemental analysis, IR, UV/Vis, 1 H NMR and MS spectra.
