RECONSIDERATION OF PRESERVATION STANDARDS FOR FARM VILLAGES DESIGNATED TO CONSERVATION AREA

2010
Most Japanese conservation areas have their own preservation standard to control selfish refurbishment and new construction. In countryside there is not appropriate guideline for preservation standard such as design code of city center. We research two farm villages that are prepared to designate to the conservation area. Most traditional farm houses have original thatched main roof and were extended or refurbished their eaves to get conveniences for dwelling. If the facade of new eaves match well to the traditional site, this way is suitable to the guideline. We guess this new guideline will be applicable to the other areas.
