Budgetary Effects of the President's Conventional Arms Proposal

1989
Abstract : This Congressional Budget Office (CBO) Staff Working Paper estimates possible budget savings that might accrue from President Bush's recent arms control proposal. The President's proposal calls for reducing military forces in Europe both for the United States and its NATO allies and for the Soviet Union and its Warsaw Pact allies. Reductions in U.S. forces could include demobilizing 30,000 troops now stationed in Europe as well as destroying some U.S. tanks, armored personnel carriers, artillery, helicopters, and land-based combat aircraft.
