Total Knee Replacement

2020
The end-stage osteoarthritis of the knee joint is a debilitation condition and has no cure at present. The conservative measures have not been successful at a large scale to relieve the symptoms successfully. The practice of biologic therapies, platelet-rich plasma, bone marrow-derived mesenchymal stem cells, adipose-derived mesenchymal stem cells and amnion-derived mesenchymal stem cells for the management of knee osteoarthritis has boosted, despite insufficient evidence of efficacy. The current best surgical option available with long-term results is cemented total knee replacement with a survival rate of 95% at 14 years (https://reports.njrcentre.org.uk/Portals/0/PDFdownloads/NJR%2015th%20Annual%20Report%202018.pdf (last visited 01 December 2019)).
