Online Learning and Advancement

The issuing by Ministry of Education of Malaysia of a Concept Request for Proposals for its Smart School Flagship Application using information technology in July 1997 proves that Malaysia is trying to integrate computer technology-based lessons in the education system. It is high time for the students to be exposed to online learning using IT, so that they will be more proactive, analytical and creative. However, there is a doubt whether teachers and students could realise and appreciate the importance of using the online learning phenomena or keep up with the latest information technology advances (Tan, 2003). Integrating online learning in the classroom becomes a comprehensive repository tool besides textbooks and notes. Online learning has become an integral and inevitable part of education as Malaysia moves toward computer–based and web-based learning.
