High-field bubble chamber

1963
A bubble chamber was built in the center of a condenser aggregate, which has a capacity of 1.85 x 10/sup -3/ f and can be charged nominally to 18 kv. The aggregate is subdivided into 60.5-kj units individually switched by a series and a crow-bar ignitron and connected each by two coaxial cables to the collector plate. A sectional drawing of the chamber is shown. The chamber was exposed to gamma rays of up to 18 Mev at the Wurzburg University 35-Mev betatron. An opaque spot in the center of some of the pictures is still unexplained. (A.G.W.)
