The Executive Federal Council brought into force on 1st March 1986 the Statutory Regulation for Clean Air valid today. Despite this and a progressive Environmental Protection Law, air pollution in Switzerland has steadily increased in many places and has now reached a level which is critical for the health of its inhabitants. At present, therefore, endeavours are undertaken to reduce the air pollution by means of more rigorous measures. The tightening-up on the RCA concerns, above all, the following areas: -reduction of emissions from heating systems -reduction of nitrogen oxide emissions from high temperature processes -reduction of volatile organic compound emissions -reduction of evaporation losses of fuels
