Comparative Efficacy of Piroxicam, Indomethacin and Placebo-Controlled in the Treatment of Degenerative Osteoarthritis

1987
In this six-week study, multiple categories were designed to discern the clinical efficacy of piroxicam (15mg orally once daily) and indomethacin (25mg orally four times a day) in treatment of 98 patients with osteoarthritis (O.A.) of the knee and/or hip. Based on evaluations by both physicians and patients, there were no statistically significant difference between the two NSAIDs-treated groups in most of the efficacy parameter studied (all p>0.001). This study also indicated that both prioxicam and indomethacin were superior to placebo in the treatment of O.A. (all p<0.001). In accord with the gastrointestinal tract, the piroicam-treated subjects had significant lower incidence of digestive problem compared with the indomethacin group (p<0.001).
