Correlation of Various Stress and Surface Contoures in Articular Cartilage

1974
The articular cartilage from different joints of subjects of different ages were examined under the scanning electron microscope in correlation with histological and transmitted light-studies. The various structures are classified and analysed. According to various mechanical stress to which the articular cartilage is subjected the chondrocytes are stimulated to an increased synthesis either of proteoglycanes or collagen.
