Recent studies show that mitochondria and actin filaments work together in two contexts: 1) increased cytoplasmic calcium induces cytoplasmic actin polymerization that stimulates mitochondrial fission, and 2) mitochondrial depolarization causes actin assembly around mitochondria, with roles in mitophagy.
