Oil-oil and oil-source rock correlations in the Northern Vienna Basin and adjacent Flysch Zone

1994
Geochemistry of 30 oil samples was studied to characterize their origin in the contact region of the Western Carpathians and Bohemian Massif and the northern part of the Vienna basin in the Czech Republic and Slovakia. The sample selection was aimed at the comparison of oils from different stratigraphic and structural positions in the Neogene of the Vienna basin, underlying Inner Carpathian units, adjacent Carpathian Flysch and Foredeep, autochthonous Paleogene, Paleozoic, and crystalline of the Bohemian Massif. The reservoir depths range from 700 to 6000 m and temperatures from 36 to 150°C. To correlate oils with potential source rocks 25 borehole cores were analysed.
