Effect of Slip Placement on the Performance of Textured Sliding Contact by CFD

2020
In this paper, the effect of slip on the lubrication performance (i.e. load support, friction) is investigated by computational fluid dynamic (CFD) approach. Various slip placements applied on textured zone of sliding contact is of particular interest. Additionally, the comparison of the performance between the analysis with the cavitation model and that without cavitation model is conducted. It is found that the slip placement has a strong influence of the load support as well as the friction force. The slip is proven to enhance the performance (i.e. the high load support but low friction) of the bearing. It is also shown the inclusion of the cavitation model in the analysis leads to a significant difference of simulation results in comparison with the analysis without taking the cavitation model.
