Age-related macular degeneration: a case study

This case study concerns a patient undergoing treatment for age-related macular degeneration (ARMD) by intravitreal injections of ranibizumab (Lucentis). ARMD is the leading causing of blindness in people over 50 in the western world, and seriously affects individuals’ ability to carry out basic aspects of daily living. Ranibizumab is a relatively new treatment for ARMD, and research on it is continuing. The author was required to expand her knowledge of the subject as her role in the care of patients with ARMD was growing. This case study highlights the importance of patient education in achieving positive outcomes for clinical treatment.
