2016
Ob jective : th is stu dy aime d to eva l uate t h e association o f b rea kf ast inta k e wit h cardiometabolic risk factors in a nationally-representative sample of Iranian pediatrics. Methods: the study participants considered o f 5,625 school students aged 10-18 years, studied in the third survey of t he national school-based surveillance system (CASPIAN-III). They were classified into three groups based on the number of days they ate breakfast: "regular breakfast eater " (6-7 days/wee k), "often breakfast eater " (3-5 days/wee k), and "seldom breakfast eater" (0-2 days/week). Metabolic syndrome (MetS) was defined based on the Adult Treatment Panel III (ATP III) criteria modified for the pediatric age group. Moreover, high total cholesterol, high low-density lipoprotein cholesterol (LDL-C) and generalized o besity were included as other car diometabolic ris k factors. Multiple logistic regression analyses were used to evaluate the association between the breakfast intake category and cardiometabolic risk factors. Resu lts : t he num ber o f su bj ects c lassi fie d as "re gular ", "often " an d "se ld om " brea kf ast eaters were 2,653(47.3%), 1,327(23.7%) an d 1,624(29.0%), respective l y. T he average o f trig lyceri des (TG), LDL-C, systo lic bl oo d pressure (SBP) an d body mass in dex (BMI) were higher in t he "seldom breakfast eater " group (P for tren d<0.001), w hereas t he mean
