Essential Oil from Carqueja (Baccharis genistelloides Pers.)

1990
ABSTRACT Baccharis genistelloides Pers. is an Asteracea widely diffused in Brazil where it is called Carqueja. Thirty five new components were separated from the essential oil by using both HRGC and GC/EI-MS. Carquejyl acetate ((1S, 6R)-6-isopropenyl-5-methylene-2-cyclohexen-l-yl acetate) was the main constituent representing the 42.8% of the total oil composition. β-Pinene (8.2%), palustrol (5.7%), germacrene D (4.3%) and some other sesquiterpene hydrocarbons and oxygenated sesquiterpenes were also identified. Carquejol was also present and represented about 2% of the total oil.
