My Clitoris – An Abnormal Organ?

This paper takes as its starting point the words of women gathered as part of a research project in the field of clinical psychology on clitoral hypertrophy caused by a rare endocrine condition – congenital adrenal hyperplasia– as a means of analysing the psychosexual organisation of women who call into question the psychoanalytical foundations of female sexuality. It draws on the representations these women have of their clitoris as a seemingly ‘excessive’ organ and sheds light on a highly particular organisation of their fantasies.
