On the role of the second well of the deformation potential energy in nuclear fission in the lead region

1989
The influence of the deformation-dependent attenuation of the rotational enhancement of the level density on the fission probability is discussed. It is shown that the difference in fissility between spherical and deformed nuclei can be explained by taking into account neutron emission by the nucleus in the second well of the deformation potential energy.
