Milburn Slag Cements - a Case Study in Added Value

1994
The range of cement types produced at the Wesport works of Milburn NZ Ltd. has recently been extended to include Portland-blastfurnace cement blends. Manufacture involves intergrinding the normal run of portland cement clinker with a granulated blastfurnace slag (in amounts up to 75% by weight of total). Various matters relating to the properties of such slag cement blends and the associated scope for securing enhanced concrete durability (especially in conjunction with the use of chemical admixtures) are discussed. Details are presented of a comprehensive test programme being undertaken at WORKS Central Laboratories to evaluate various aspects of performance.
