Skin Friction Measurements in Two- and Three-Dimensional Highly Turbulent Flows with Separation

1987
The results reported in [1] present comparative skin-friction measurements obtained by a Preston tube, a surface fence, a single film and a McCroskey hot-film probe, and a wall pulsed wire in two- and three-dimensional highly turbulent flows (near wall turbulence level > 40%) with separation and instantaneous reverse flow. Fluctuating values of skin friction were obtained by the wall pulsed wire and the hot films in addition to the mean values and the direction of the wall stream line. Differences in the results of the measuring techniques are explained and the failure of devices under these severe conditions is displayed.
