Sobre la inexistencia de permafrost en las cumbres de Sierra Nevada

In this study we introduce the longest record for soil temperatures in a high massif of southern Europe, Sierra Nevada (Spain). Soil temperatures were monitored from 2002 to 2013 at depths down to 60 m. According to these data, no permafrost conditions are found in the highest lands of Sierra Nevada. Mean temperatures range from 2.3 to 3.2oC in the first 60 m depth. Snow cover plays a major role controlling the significant interannual and intrannual variations of soil temperatures recorded in the most superficial loggers.
