Multiple sclerosis: some preliminary findings of a neurological and medical-sociological prospective research project

Since October 1981 our interdisciplinary research group from the Departments of Neurology and Medical Sociology at the University of Gottingen have been conducting a prospective research project with a group of newly-diagnosed MS-patients. The project will last 3 years. Our main objective is to analyse neurological and socio-medical aspects dealing with the onset and course of MS commencing at the time of initial diagnosis. For the purpose of our study every patient will be examined and interviewed at regular intervals, three times during the first year and once annually thereafter.
