Postsurgical fistulas in the GI tract involve the gut and another hollow organ, cavity and even the skin. This complication has tremendous impact on a patient’s health and health care costs, even with improvements in surgical techniques and postsurgical care, the frequency of fistulas have not decreased. There are various classification systems but none are used exclusively. For accurate diagnosis thorough medical history, blood tests, imaging studies and endoscopic studies to diagnose the precise location of the fistula opening in the GI tract.
