Case Report: Near-Fatal Intestinal Hemorrhage and Acute Acalculous Cholecystitis due to Vi-Negative and Fluoroquinolone-Insensitive Salmonella enterica Serovar Typhi Infection: A Rare Entity.

2021
Typhoid fever is usually a mild clinical disease. Typhoid fever with fatal intestinal hemorrhage is rare in the antibiotic era. Acute acalculous cholecystitis (AAC )is also particularly rare in adult typhoid fever cases. Here, we described a rare adult case of typhoid fever with massive lower gastrointestinal bleeding and AAC due to Vi-Negative and antimicrobial resistant Salmonella enterica subspecies enterica serovar Typhi (S. Typhi) infection. To our knowledge, this is the first adult case of two complications due to Vi-Negative and antimicrobial resistant S. Typhi infection. Our aim is to alert physicians to pay attention to this rare condition.
