Surgical exposure in total knee arthroplasty (TKA)
2015
Abstract As the population of baby boomers increases, the number of patients undergoing total knee arthroplasty is set to see an exponential rise. Traditionally, the medial parapatellar approach has been the workhorse approach, and is still the preferred approach, but numerous other approaches such as midvastus, subvastus and the lateral parapatellar approach are available and give good results in the hands of the experts who designed them. All these approaches have their pros and cons. We describe all the current approaches available for primary total knee replacement (TKR).
