Applications: Emergency Responder Health Monitoring and Surveillance

2018
Abstract Emergency response and recovery workers are critical to preserving the public's health and safety in disaster settings. In spite of their essential roles, the health outcomes of exposed emergency responders may be overlooked during postdisaster monitoring and surveillance activities. However, innovative systems have been developed to ensure the accountability, tracking, and surveillance of emergency responders. In this chapter we will demonstrate how the Emergency Responder Health Monitoring and Surveillance system has been successfully applied to protect emergency responders during all phases of a response, including predeployment, deployment, and postdeployment phases.
