Complexes of the type TiCl4 · donor show one e. s. r. signal, with g = 2.005. Its absolute value and dependence on temperature and ionisation potential of the donor allow conclusions in the participation of a biradical structure in the ground state. In solid solutions an addtional photomagnetism appears, which can be accounted for by the reaction with excess TiCl4. – 3 TiCl4 · hexamethylbenzene (HMB) shows one e. s. r. signal with g = 2 and HMB+ hyperfine structure; the infrared spectrum suggests a Ti3Cl12 entity with a three-membered titanium ring for the acceptor.
