Consulting as a specialized economic activity has a number of characteristics: providing a client with additional capital, technologization of knowledge, the capitalization of knowledge, innovation, entrepreneurial character, knowledge capital as capital assets. Consulting is analyzed as an economic category and as a market economy Institute. A comprehensive model of the Institute developed. The condition of the Institute of consulting in the Russian economy is analyzed on the basis of which analyses. The role of the Institute consulting in the economy for economic agentsis considered. The peculiarities of the status of the Institute of consulting in Russia are specified. There are immature demand for consulting services by small and medium-sized businesses, the weakness of legal framework; lack of system for reproduction of professional personnel consulting, lack of development of algorithms and standards of consulting, the problem of interaction with clients and organization of the consulting business.
