The invention is a display device provided with a display element, and a thin-film transistor that controls the luminescence of this display element. The thin-film transistor comprises a gate electrode formed on an insulating support substrate, a gate insulating film formed on the substrate so as to cover the gate electrode, a channel layer formed on the gate insulating film, a channel protection layer formed on the top surface of the channel layer, a pair of contact layers formed on the top surface of the channel protection layer and connected to the channel layer, and a source electrode and drain electrode connected to the pair of contact layers. The pair of contact layers have adjoining interfaces at the side surfaces of the channel layer.
