The goal of this researching work is to evaluate thought Aspen Hysys simulation software the implementation of a preflash column in the primary distillation unit of the Talara refinery, get down or not the energy consumption of the atmospheric furnace. The studying was divided into three stages. in the first and second stages, the information was gathered from previous researching have carried out on the implementation, design and simulation of preflash columns; in addition to the concepts related to oil processing. In the third stage, the main crude assays done to can to find the assay and the main crude properties to have the nearest simulation to reality. Then the primary distillation unit was simulated; taking as a base the previously information. For the evaluation of the preflash column, it was simulated and included in the simulation of the primary distillation unit. The comparison of the results obtained with and without preflash column showed a decrease in the energy consumption of 500 000 MJ/h
