A power converter (1) comprises: an intermediate circuit terminal to a first Zwischenkreisanschlusspol (2) and a second Zwischenkreisanschlusspol (3), an inverter unit (4) having a first Wechselrichteranschlusspol (5) and a second Wechselrichteranschlusspol (6), a transformer (7) with a working winding (7a) and a compensation current winding (7b), said power winding (7a) between one of the intermediate circuit terminal poles (2, 3) and an inverter connecting poles (5, 6) is looped, and a compensation current control means (8), comprising: compensation current determining means (IDC_SOLL) the compensation current winding (7b) to apply a compensating current (9, 10) which is adapted to a compensation current value (IDC_SOLL) to be determined and a compensation current generating means (11) which is adapted in dependence on the compensating current reference value ,
