Ion transfer tube (30) for transporting ions from a first chamber (15) to a second chamber (18) of a mass spectrometer, wherein the ion transfer tube (30) comprises: a first segment (66) and a second segment (69) which is connected to the first segment (66); wherein the first segment (66) includes an inlet end (27), which is open to the first chamber (15), and the second segment (69) includes an outlet (33), which is open to the second chamber (18), wherein the second chamber (18) at a reduced relative to the first chamber (15) pressure is maintained; wherein the first segment (66) having a plurality of separate parallel channels (80), which are accommodated in an outer sleeve (74), such that by the first segment (66) flowing ions among the plurality of channels (80) are divided; wherein the second segment (69) has a common channel (92) which is in flow communication with the plurality of channels (80) of the first segment (66) and at least a portion of the outer sleeve (74), wherein the common channel (92 ) receives a combined flow of ions from the plurality of channels (80) in the first segment (66) and transported; and a heating arrangement (36, 39, 42, 45) for heating at least a portion of the first segment (66) to evaporate residual solvent, passing through the ion transfer tube (30).
