Elastic response of coating materials in thermoelasticity: Indented by a hot punch

2019
AbstractThe indentation problem of coating materials in thermoelasticity is investigated. Based on the Papkovitch–Neuber potential functions, general displacement and stress solutions of the coating layer and the substrate body are derived in thermoelasticity. Fourier transform and Bessel function are used to obtain the explicit elastic response. The influences of the layer thickness on the elastic response are studied. Also, three heated indenters are employed to study the indentation behavior involving heat flow. Besides, the influences of the temperature on the elastic response are distinguished. The results involving heat flow show significant effects on the contact behaviors.
