Complications of Endoscopic Resection and Management: Esophagus and Stomach

2021
Endoscopic resection (ER) of superficial lesions in the esophagus and the stomach has become widely accepted as a minimally invasive method of treatment. However, while the risks and complications associated with ER may be lower than in surgical resection, there are complications that may be life-threatening and cannot be ignored. In this chapter, risk factors and methods of diagnosing and managing complications, which may occur during or after ER for upper gastrointestinal lesions will be explained. Endoscopists should have sufficient knowledge of these complications and methods of managing them before commencing treatment. Standard precautionary measures for minimizing complications should also be utilized when possible.
