Clinical Study of the Efficiency and Safty of Pediatric Postoperative Pain Control with Acetaminophen Viarectum

2008
Objective To evaluate the analgesic effect and safety of pediatric postoperative pain control with Acetaminophen via rectum. Methods Sixty patients undergoing surgical treatments of herniorrhaphy with Sevoflurane and Propofol general anesthesia were randomly divided into two groups:group A received acetaminophen via rectum as postoperative pain control before surgery started and group B received sacral spinal analgesia with tramadol after operation. After acetaminophen was placed and tramadol was given, pain scores, global impression score and side effects were assessed at 1 h,4 h,6 h,8 h,12 h and 24 h.Results There was no difference in pain scores and global impression score between the two groups(P0.05).Group B caused more adverse effects than Group A (P0.01).There were no any changes in hepatic and coagulation function both in GroupAnd Group B.Conclusion The result indicate that using acetaminophen via rectum is an effective, safe and simple method to control postoperative pain in children.
