Pengaruh Modifikasi Square Stepping Exercise terhadap Peningkatan Kognitif pada Lanjut Usia

At the stage of entering old age, one will experience changes in one of them in the nervous system which results in a decrease in cognitive function. A decrease in cognitive function can be started from normal cognitive or cognitive disorders such as dementia. One way to deal with this condition is to provide a square stepping exercise (SSE) modification exercise, the benefits of the exercise to maintain and improve cognitive function. The aim of this study was to investigate the effect of SSE modification on cognitive improvement in the elderly. This type of research is quasi experimental, while the research design is pretest and posttest two group design. The sampling technique is purposive sampling. The research subjects were 20 people with 10 people in the treatment group and 10 people in the control group. The effect of the test results using the paired sample test in the treatment group with a p-value of 0,000 and the control group with a p-value of 0,002, there is an influence between SSE modification in the treatment group and brain gym in the control group. Different influence test using independent sample test obtained p-value 0,051 so there was no significant difference in effect on the treatment group with modification of square stepping exercise and control group with brain gym. The conclusion of this study is the modification of SSE and Brain Gym can improve cognitive in the elderly.
