Nonlinear orotron theory, taking the spatial limitation of the electrodynmaic system into account

1994
A modified nonlinear theory of the orotron is proposed that makes it possible to take account of the spatial boundeness of not only the open resonator but also the periodic structure. The effect of resonances associated with the finiteness of the periodic system on the operating parameters'of the orotron is investigated on the basis of this theory by a numerical method. The theoretically calculated and experimentally measured current dependences of the efficiency are compared for a specific device. The results of such a comparison showed that the theoretical dependence correctly reflects the shape of the analogous experimental curve within a wide interval of operating currents (with an error of no more than 15%), whereas a calculation of this curve using the known theory leads to a large discrepancy with respect to experiment
