Endoscopic Stenting in Aqueductal Stenosis
1998
Extracranial shunting is the most common procedure for treatment of hydrocephalus. Alternative procedures such as endoscopic septostomy and endoscopic third ventriculostomy not only provide a more natural route for CSF flow but also provide a possibility of reduction in the number of inserted shunts, and reduction in the number of surgeries for shunt revision [1]. Furthermore, low pressure syndromes secondary to overdrainage can be avoided. Shunt independence in an increasing number of patients with hydrocephalus was achieved by septum pellucidum septostomy and third ventriculostomy and reported by several authors [2–4, 7, 9].
