Continuous type separation of boron isotope and apparatus therefor
1995
PURPOSE: To provide a method and an apparatus for thickening a boric acid solution with respect to boron-10 isotope. CONSTITUTION: The separation of 10 B isotope in the boric acid solution is executed within a continuous annular chromatograph 12 by using the boric acid solution as a feed phase, water as an eluate or moving phase and a weak basic anion exchange resin as a fixing phase, respectively. The continuous annular chromatograph 12 is disposed near its apex and is packed with a feed pipe for introducing the aqueous boric acid feed solution, a feed pipe for introducing the eluate solution and the weak basic anion exchange resin. The apparatus has a freely rotatable annular ion exchange resin chromatography column having a height and diameter sufficient for dissolving the boron isotope to at least two separate isotope product fractions, i.e., at least one boron-10 concentrated product fraction and at least one boron-10 reduced product fraction and product collecting ports for separately collecting the isotope product fractions.
