2019
AbstractThe objective of this study was to identify the prognostic factors associated with intra hospitalinfection in adult burn patients in the Santiago de Cuba provincial burn department. This was aprospective case-control and analytic study in the Provincial Burns Department of Santiago de Cubabetween September 2011 and August 2013; including all hospitalized patients. The Chi 2independence and homogeneity test was used with a significance level of 5%; as well as the multivariedtechnique of logistic regression. We found 58 cases of infection in 200 patients with burns, ie29% of cases, the sex ratio was 1.04 in favor of the female; the probability of infection was high fromage 46 (1.02 times per year) with a standard deviation of 20.55 and a confidence interval of 40.77 to51.58; 71% of our patients with infection had hypodermic burns and the flame was the most commoncausative agent; the hospital stay was 52.19 days with a standard deviation of 16.11; the risk ofinfection increased by 1.16 times per day of hospitalization, an average body area burned of 28.29%was found with a standard deviation of 20.83; hypodermic burns increased the risk of infection by 2.15fold. Age, hospital stay and depth of burns; especially those of the hypodermic type have been theprognostic factors of greater influence. Keywords: Large burn, sepsis, prognosis of infection
