Method and server for communicating with client

The invention discloses a method and a server for communicating with a client at the position of the server. By means of the method and the server, the client can timely know the setting situation of a long connection so as to be communicated with the server. The method includes that request messages sent by the client are received, and client identification of the client contained in the request messages is obtained; whether a long connection channel identification which corresponds to the client identification is stored in a client message list or not is determined, and if the long connection channel identification is stored, a first response message which indicates that the long connection is established is returned to the client; if the long connection channel identification is not stored, a long connection channel is distributed for the client, the long connection channel identification of the long connection channel and the client identification are stored into the client message list, and a second response message which indicates that the long connection is not established is returned to the client; and messages are transmitted between the server and the client based on the long connection established between the server and the client.
