Power system protection for distributed generators based on off-the-shelf components

Automation systems of distributed generators can also be used for power system protection, so that protective relays can be omitted. This paper proves the feasibility of this approach. First a use case from the field of wind power specifies protection functions. Those are then implemented on a programmable logic controller. Finally this prototype is validated in comparison to the state of technology. (5 pages)
