Manifestaciones radiográficas del bruxismo en pacientes adultos

2021
Background: bruxism is a very frequent masticatory system disorder characterized by clenching or grinding the teeth. It has different consequences for various structures such as periodontal tissues, which can be evidenced clinically and radiographically. Objective: to describe the radiographic manifestations in bruxopathic patients. Methods: an observational descriptive cross-sectional study was carried out between the months of February 2019 to July 2019. The study universe consisted of 92 patients from which a sample of 72 was selected by a non-probabilistic method based on author criteria. Results: a high number of patients manifested a widening of the periodontal space, which in turn had a high incidence in the female sex. The predominant form of bruxism was centric. The majority of the patients presented periodontal affectations and in these, the widening of the periodontal space and the partial or total loss of the alveolar cortex had the same behavior. Conclusions: most of the examined patients showed to some extent radiographic signs due to the action exerted by the traumatic forces characteristic of bruxism on the tissues that make up the insertion periodontium. DeCS: BRUXISM/diagnostic imaging; BRUXISM/complications; BRUXISM/therapy; STOMATOGNATHIC SYSTEM/injuries; OBSERVATIONAL STUDY.
