The expanded sterilization project National Family Planning Program Ministry of Public Health.

1982
Describes the workings of Thai governments family planning project. The problem initially centered on the postwar baby boom. The 1st efforts at population control involved the distribution of reversible temporary means of birth control such as the Pill and IUD. These methods proved effective in spacing birth intervals. However the use of permanent means of birth control male and female sterilization was not without merit. Surgical sterilization required trained personnel as well as an educated populace. Through UNFPA and later USAID funds were made available for the training of medical and paramedical personnel. The development of mobile surgical vasectomy units which provided education and counseling to the public as well as surgery was instituted. Data is provided showing the sterilization rate for urban and rural areas and in private clinics.
