Expression of PTEN in Laryngeal Squamous Cell Cacinoma

2006
Objective: To detect the role of phosphatase and tensen-homology deleted on chromosome ten(PTEN) in laryngeal squamous cell carcinoma through observing the expression of PTEN in laryngeal squamous cell carcinoma. Methods: 41 cases of laryngeal squamous cell cacinoma(disease group) including 11 cases with lymph node metastasis, and 20 samples of normal soft palate mucosa(control group) were chosen and expression of PTEN were detected by immunohistochemistry. Results: PTEN expressed in 24 cases of laryngeal squamous cell cacinoma(58.54%) and in 18 cases of normal soft palate tissue(90%).The positive rate was lower in disease group than that in control group. The PTEN expression was significantly associated with lymph node metastasis status(P0.05) but not with histological differentiation, clinical stage or patient age(P0.05).Conclusions: The reduction of PTEN expression in laryngeal squamous cell cacinoma may play an important role in the development of laryngeal squamous cell cacinoma.
