ANALYSIS OF HEAT AND MASS TRANSFER BETWEEN SOLID WALL AND FLUID STREAMS AT BOTH LOW AND HIGH REYNOLDS NUMBERS

1962
Heat and mass transfer for fluid flow in smooth tubes are considered at a wide range of Prandtl or Schmidt numbers with Reynolds numbers from 10/sup 3/ to 10/sup 5/. A treatment applicable to both laminar and turbulent flows is presented. The concept of three fluid layers was abandoned and a single equation is proposed to describe the flow variations at different distances from the wall to cover the whole region of heat and mass transfer. Theoretical predictions are compared with experimental data from various sources. The agreement with the data appears to be noteworthy. (auth)
